04/08/2012 Easter Sunday Gospel
Resurrection – the Greatest Miracle

(Super nature vs. GodÕs Act)
Are there still miracles in the 21st century? – Especially in the Silicon Valley!

38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, ÒTeacher, we want to see a sign from you.Ó 39 But He answered and said to them, ÒAn evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.Ó (Matthew 12:38-41)

In an evil and adulterous generation, what man needs the most is salvation, not miracles! Not to mention that Òthe Lord of all is even willing to die for the created menÓ, Òthe omnipotent God is even willing to die for little peopleÓ, Òthe holy God is actually willing to die for sinnersÓÉ isnÕt it the greatest miracle!

ÒResurrectionÓ is the foundation and core content of the Christian faith

And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. (1 Corinthians 15:14)

And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! (1 Corinthians 15:17)

To talk about ÒresurrectionÓ, one needs to first talk about ÒdeathÓ – It is relevant to everyone, extremely relevant

É Through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. (Romans 5:12)

The wages of sin is death; (but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord). (Romans 6:23)

(22 É the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:22-23)

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. (Hebrews 9:27)

Why is the resurrection of Christ so important? (Besides (2) above)

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (Hebrews 2:14-15)

3 Concerning His son Jesus Christ our Lord, É 4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. (Romans 1:3-4)

30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. (Acts 17:30-31)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you. (1 Peter 1:3-4)

ÒIt was accounted to him for righteousness.Ó  Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, 24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification. (Romans 4:23-25)

He does not just become the life-giving Lord, He Himself is our life

v 耶穌對她說:「復活在我,生命也在我 É(I am resurrection, I am life)(11:25)
Jesus said to her, ÒI am the resurrection and the life ÉÓ (John 11:25)

9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. (John 10:9-11)

14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose againÉ 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:14-15, 17)

3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:3-4)

Paul said to King Agrippa, ÒWhy should it be thought incredible by you that God raises the dead?Ó (Acts 26:8)
