Holiness Unto The Lord (28): ŇDaniel who remained undefiled out of the miry sootÓ

Scriptures: Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the kingŐs descendants and some of the nobles, young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the kingŐs palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans. And the king appointed for them a daily provision of the kingŐs delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end of that time they might serve before the king. Now from among those of the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. To them the chief of the eunuchs gave names: he gave Daniel the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abed-Nego.  But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the kingŐs delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. (Dan 1:1-8)

Memorization Verse:  21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Tim 2:21-22)

A.   DanielŐs generation

1.    A generation entirely in captivity – separated from the promise land and taken into captivity and exile to Babylon

2.    A generation that is easily assimilated- taught in the language and literature of the Chaldeans and given a new name

3.    A generation that is easily corrupted – lived in a palace, given the kingŐs delicacies and wine, a lifestyle of opulence

4.    A generation that is easily compromised – will be cast in the furnace for not worshiping an idol and thrown into the lionŐs den for upholding the worship of God

B.   The secrets to DanielŐs victory

1.    As his custom, he continued with his prayer life

á     Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days. (Dan 6:10)

2.    Lived a lifestyle that is holy unto the Lord since his youth

á     But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the kingŐs delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank É (Dan 1:8)

á     Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15)

á     Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Tim 2:21-22)
