(For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.)

The Fruits of Repentance (2): A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.

Memorization Scripture: For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. (2 Corinthians 7:10)

A)  The real repentance is not only the beginning of salvation, but also an usual and  life-long experience for the children of God.

a)    A real saving faith inevitably includes repentance

Confession and Repentance are totally different. Confession only means admitting oneÕs sin. But repentance includes both intentions and actions. It includes 1). turning away from sin; and 2). truning toward Savior, Jesus.

b)    Repentance bears fruits being worthy of it. Moreover, the fruits of repentance come out of transformation. ItÕs evident.

... that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance. (Acts 26:20b)

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise. (Psalm 51:17): ÒThe Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax CollectorÓ given by Jesus (Luke 18:9-14).

Example of real repentance: Ephesians 4:28

1)    Turn away from sin completely: Let him who stole steal no longer

2)    Become the right person and do the right thing: but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good

3)    Be used by God and be a vessel of GodÕs blessings

B)  A real repentance inevitably brings about a deeper experience of salvation.

10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. (2 Corinthians 7:9-11)

C)  God is righteous and full of grace and mercy.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. (Joel 2:13)

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ÒI dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. (Isaiah 57:15)
