Free from the world

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, ÒIf you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.Ó They answered Him, ÒWe are AbrahamÕs descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ÔYou will become freeÕ?Ó

Jesus answered them, ÒTruly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

A.         The process and goal in Christ

            1.         The initial belief

                        a.         Jesus was talking to Jewish people who had believed in him

                        b.         Belief is a very important theme in the Gospel of John

                        c.         We all need to start in Christ by believing in Him

                        d.         Application: do you have this faith?

            2.         The continuation of faith in knowledge

a.         True faith begins at a point in time when you accept, believe, trust in who Jesus is and what he did for us.

b          But there is the continuation in truth.

                        c.         Some do think this is important. Just believe. Attend Church.

d.         Application: Do you know Christ better? Do you know the things that Christ did for us better?  Do you know his goals for us better?

            3.         The end goal is freedom

                        a.         The Jewish believers did not understand this freedom.

                        b.         They thought it was political freedom.

c.         Jesus meant the freedom from sin. The freedom to change, the freedom to be transformed.

d.         This helps us with the concept of knowledge. Some people think knowing is about more facts about Jesus or stories about the Bible. But studying the Bible needs to always result in a change in ourselves.

e.         Application: We all admit to having problems, but do we admit to any faults? Are you in the process of transformation in Christ, or are we in   denial, or hiding?

                                    1)        Perhaps financial faults

                                    2)        Perhaps immoral faults

                                    3)        Perhaps depression in not being any cope faults

                                    4)        Perhaps lying

                                    5)        Perhaps faults of losing your children

                                    6)        Perhaps marital

                        f.          Not free from guilt here, but free to change
