A People Dwelling Alone, Not Reckoning Itself Among the Nations(9) : Becoming a people of ÒSpiritual ParadoxÓ

Hymnary: H231 ÒO, How I Love JesusÓ; SH141 ÒAll Ye LandsÓ; SH84 ÒFrom Glory to GloryÓ; SH254 ÒWe Are Your PeopleÓ; H245 ÒFill Me NowÓ

Scriptures: 1Timothy 1:15; Colossians 1:21-22; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10; Romans 5:2-5; 2 Corinthians 4:7-11; 2 Corinthians 6:8-10

Speaker: Brother Hongjie Yu

Outline:

A) Chief of sinners vs. Saints

á       É sinners, of whom I am chief.  (1 Timothy 1:15)

á       21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— (Colossians 1:21-22)

B) Weak vs. Strong

á       9 And He said to me, ÒMy grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in____________.Ó  Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for ChristÕs sake. For when I am ______, then I am ________.

(2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

C)  Tribulations vs. Joy (praising God in the midst of weeping)

á       2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also ______ in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:2-5)

á       1 Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: 2 that in a _________ ______________the ______________and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.  (2 Corinthians 8:1-2)

D) Death vs. Life

á       7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the _______________________, that the _________________also may be manifested in our body. 11 For we who live are always delivered to death for JesusÕ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. (2 Corinthians 4:7-11)

E) More paradox ...

á       [1 We then, as workers together with Him É]  8 by honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; 9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet _________________; as _______________, and yet _____________________.  (2 Corinthians 6:8-10)
